Got DOORS?
Junk yard score! I delivered tasty treats to the junk man today and FINALLY found suitable house parts! Two outside doors in very good shape and in a pretty Christmas red!
I didn't see any evidence of termites or wood eating things. The doors are bone-dry so no water damage which is what attracts bugs. No, I don't treat them. How would I? I wash them down before they go into the garage. (...the garage which now smells musty because of those floor boards I cleaned a couple months ago...I might have to get rid of those.)
Not saying I don't think of these things when I go to the dump. I look everything over very carefully. I suppose that's why I've brought few house parts home in the last two years I've been scrounging. I've only collected two small windows and these doors from the dump, and my picture frame. All is dry with no evidence ever being eaten by bugs in the past.
Hooray! It looks like they are solid wood but they have that hard veneer casing on both sides. I assume it can be painted...somehow. It is scratched up, mostly from me transporting them home but they were tossed in a trash pile so I can't expect perfection. We no longer have Freecycle here so no longer an option to get freebies first hand.
WOW! Are there any chances that these wood could be infected with termites or wood borers? What do you do to treat them?

The doors look great! Good find.
