Recalling All Toxic Poisons!

I used Secret deodorant in both aerosol and roll-on forms for most of my life. In fact, as a teenager, I collected deodorant cans. Yeah, that's weird, but I wanted a collection no one else had and empty deodorant cans were accumulating all around me and free. I think if I would have saved them they might be worth money. Maybe? Yeah, I doubt it.

It's been years since I've used a toxic, smelly deodorant and instead I now use vinegar and baking soda. I try to live by the rule, if I can't eat it, I don't put it on my body. I have tried some of the so-called non-toxic versions, but I find vinegar and baking soda works much better. I am hoping my chemical-free practices save me from any number of diseases caused by these chemicals, but who knows how much damage I did before I became enlightened?

Proctor & Gamble is recalling their Secret and Old Spice products because they contain a cancer-causing ingredient called benzene. For anyone who is somewhat enlightened, any word with ene on the end of it is a toxin: styrene, pentene, butene, ethylene, propylene....most plastics are made with enes. I often forget that most of the population is conveniently unaware. It seems benzene specifically causes leukemia. I wonder, Are they just now figuring this out? This ene warning has been around for a long time.

Of course, the company immediately followed up the recall with a statement, "Daily exposure to benzene in the recalled products at the levels detected in our testing would not be expected to cause adverse health consequences." So are they saying cancer isn't an "adverse health consequence"? If daily exposure isn't a problem, then why recall at all? Are they trying to mitigate the influx of lawsuits? Sounds like legal double-talk to me.

What about all the other products filled with cancer-causing enes, for instance, those with fragrances? All fragrances have toluene, but no one is recalling products with this ingredient. It's time they should. Can you imagine? HABA shelves would be emptied! Unfortunately, it would greatly affect the bottom line of not only the companies that manufacture products using these ingredients but the chemical companies would take a huge hit. Profits are far more important than people!

Essential Oil Toxicity

I approached one of the members of my art group. His essential oil stink polluted the outside air at least 10 feet in circumference. I quickly adjusted my position in the group, up wind and away. He's the one who professes because essential oils are "organic" they are healthy. He refuses to listen to anything I have to say and he's the quintessential mansplainer constantly taking the position that he knows more than me simply because of his gender. What an ignoramus!
Alison Johnson recently included an essential oil study results on her website:
Essential oils, widely used in society, emit numerous volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Some of these VOCs are considered potentially hazardous under federal regulations. However, essential oils are exempt from disclosure of their ingredients on their label. Thus, the public may lack information on emissions and potential hazards from essential oils. This study examined VOCs emitted from a range of commercial essential oils, including tea tree oils, lavender oils, eucalyptus oils, and other individual oils and mixtures of oils. Using headspace gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS), the study analyzed 24 commercial essential oils, including 12 with claims of being "natural" or related terms, such as organic, 100% pure, or plant-based. Results identified 595 VOCs emitted from the 24 essential oils, representing 188 different VOCs. The most common VOCs emitted were alpha-pinene, limonene, acetone, linalool, alpha-phellandrene, betamyrcene, and camphene. Among the 589 VOCs identified, 124 VOCs, representing 33 different VOCs, are classified as potentially hazardous. All natural and regular essential oils emitted one or more potentially hazardous VOCs, such as acetaldhyde, acetone, and ethanol. Toluene was also found in 50% of essential oils. Moreover, for the prevalent VOCs classified as potentially hazardous, no significant difference was found between regular and natural essential oils. This study provides insights and information about emissions of commercial essential oils that can be useful for public awareness and risk reduction.
AH HA!!!! All those "ene" toxins are cancer-causing as well as just being poisonous. Didn't I ponder in another post I bet they add toulene to essential oils to maintain viscocity??? And there it is! Toulene is in every perfume and is a known cause of cancer!!! Sounds exactly like the perfume industry with their "trade secret" clause defying transparency. I'll make another prediction: I bet anything the essential oils industry is controlled by the perfume and chemical companies, much like some organic seed companies are owned by Monsanto.
Vindicated once again.
To all you addicted naysayers out there, research is finally confirming the toxcity of essential oils. Take it seriously. Stop poisoning the rest of us and stop pushing your poisons on those who are not interested! Those of us who are "canaries" aren't crazy. We know when your stink is toxic!

HAZMAT

Today I mailed a package.

The postal woman asked, "Is the item you are mailing perishable, flammable, or dangerous?

No. I mail enough packages to know the drill. I was half asleep.

"Does it contain biological substances, alcohol, aerosols, lithium batteries or perfume?"

No..uh, WHAT? Did you say PERFUME?

Did you know perfume is dangerous? It is believe to be the cause of airplane fires that have gone unexplained for years.

Whoa!

Finally, someone in authority, a government entity, [The United States Postal Service] has recognized perfume is dangerous! Because it's flammable, it can only be shipped domestically and transported via surface mail. The postal woman is required to label it with a HAZMAT warning and contain it in a special crate so everyone is aware of the impending danger.

She went on to tell me perfumes are 10% alcohol which is flammable. Of course I chimed in with, "All perfumes have toluene which is an ingredient used to make explosives!"

She said airline personnel make the final decision and sometimes they put all the hazardous flammables into one crate and transport them all together. Eeewww. I don't ever want to be on that airplane!

Of course, I didn't stop there, "Perfume is dangerous and it's about time someone finally admitted it. It's made from toxic chemicals yet stupid people want to put it all over their bodies. No one should wear it and I have yet to figured out why it hasn't been banned."

With eyes wide and full of fear, the postal lady nodded in agreement.

It's just a matter of time. I mean, how many people out in the general public have ever told you perfume is dangerous? Maybe next, people who wear perfume will be classified as spontaneously combustible terrorists!?  I say throw them all in prison!

This gives me so much hope.

History of Perfume

Once upon a time, long, long ago, in a land far away, people used flower extracts, spices and herbs for perfume. Can you imagine? And they didn't even bathe back then. I swear I was born in the wrong century! Perfume used to be very expensive because it was difficult to make as it took time, skill and natural, quality ingredients.

The chemical boom started right around World War II and that's when everything went artificial, including perfume. I wouldn't be surprised if the deadly nerve gas developed during the war ended up as one of the ingredients in perfume. Perhaps the premise is if you can't attract a man with your fake stink, you can kill him as the alternative?

Toluene is in every perfume. It's also in furniture stripper, gasoline and explosives. It causes cancer along with a host of other health issues such as brain damage, memory loss, muscle control issues, numbness, tremors, headaches, and asthma. That's just one of at least 800 toxic chemicals used to make one perfume formula.

Perfume is still expensive, but chemicals are cheap. What consumers now pay for are the trade secrets (formulas) and the brand names.  What a rip. To protect these trade secrets, perfume manufacturers are totally unregulated by any government entity and are not required to list specific ingredients on labels. (Of course, that isn't to suggest any government entity regulates anything anyway!) This is excellent for sales because if people knew what they were putting on their bodies, they might decide it wasn't worth the health risk.  Someone once said wearing perfume is like covering yourself in paint...except you'd be a prettier color.

The use of the word fragrance is interesting to me. It's such a pretty word, but all it means on a label is a chemical that rearranges your brain cells so you think you are smelling a particular scent. When you see fragrance on a label, think toxic poison. Not so pretty now, is it? Also, stay away from any product with the ingredient "masking fragrance."  This is a chemical designed to shut off your brain so you can't smell it and it's used in many unscented products.

I read a study that discussed the horrors of chemical scents and how they affect our ability to make good choices when selecting a mate. We have been conditioned to believe our natural scents are repellent to others and it scares the hell out of us. Have you ever dated someone who's natural smell was so bad it made you gag? They would be classified as  "chemically incompatible" with you. The next person who comes along might think that person smells wonderful! This aspect of matchmaking is impossible to detect if one or both parties are bathed in artificial stink. Yet we are afraid someone might smell us so we cover  up our own scent with perfumes, colognes, and body washes. Unfortunately, if we can't properly smell the opposite sex, how do we select a compatible mate? Maybe this is why divorce rates are so high?  The study went on to say that perfumes don't attract the opposite sex and often disgust them. Scents that do attract are vanilla for women and cloves/cinnamon for men. Our ancestors knew what they were doing.

People are slowly starting to recognize the health ramifications of perfumes. Many businesses, schools and government offices are implementing fragrance-free policies. Even whole cities! Someday we will see fragrance bans in public places like we see smoking restrictions.  That will be a time of celebration.
